Description

After successful camps last year in Calgary Kaykima would like to offer this 3 day Wilderness Skills experience again this year!

This specialized mini camp is stripped down, skill-focused, and built for kids who have an interest in developing outdoor skills. No filler, no busywork—just practical, hands-on learning in a small group setting capped at 10 participants which means more one to one instruction time. Over the course of the camp, youth will dive into essential skills like multiple methods of firecraft and how to properly maintain a fire, building effective shelters, safe and confident knife and axe use, and putting together a reliable survival kit that participants can take home with them to use on their next adventure.

We’ll also cover signaling, tracking, and natural navigation, along with an introduction to wilderness medicine and the identification and uses of local plants and fungi. Instruction is adapted to each participant’s experience level, with plenty of one-on-one guidance to help build real confidence and capability. This camp is about more than just skills—it’s about developing awareness, problem-solving, and a sense of self-reliance that carries well beyond the woods.

By the end of the three days youth should feel a more confident, knowledgable and prepared for spending time in nature and hopefully have made some positive memories with new friends!

Additional Information:

Ages 8 -18

We will meet at the main building next to the parking lot

Please wear weather appropriate clothing. A good rule is to dress for colder than what the forecast is calling for. This includes sturdy, closed toe footwear and appropriate gear for rain or snow.

Pack along plenty to drink and a couple of snacks.

Youth are welcome to bring a knife if it is FIXED BLADE (non-folding) otherwise all tools and materials are provided. Youth can use cutting tools only after knife safety instruction.

These classes are drop off or parented. You know your child the best, however if you are dropping off please connect with Rob directly before the class.

Parents and siblings under 8 years old are welcome to hang out and observe.
