Winter Fire Craft - The ability to make fire in less than ideal conditions is an important skill to have, especially in Alberta where we can have snow for over half of the year. Staying warm and dry is essential while exploring in the winter. This class will cover tip and tricks that will help you make quick and effective fires in any conditions.
February 19th
Reading Nature/ Tracking - With fallen snow we can better see the movements of wildlife and be able to "read the story" of the forest. This class will cover wildlife behaviour and tracking as well as reading the signs of nature to help us navigate the wild.
March 19th
Snow Shelters - Winter is a time of opportunity and challenge. This class will focus on buidling effective and safe shelter using snow. The class covers traditional and Indigenous snow shelters and why they are effective before doing the work and building our own.
April 9th
Bushcraft Torch Making - This hands on class will first cover knife safety and proper use before getting into creating your own bushcraft torch using all natural materials that can be used for light, moving fire, and emergency signalling.
What to Bring:
Appropriate winter clothing (dress for colder than what the forecast calls for)
Snacks and plenty to drink

Kaykima requires 48 hours notice before the first class to cancel in order to get a full refund, anything outside that may result in class credit being issued. I cannot provide refunds for individual classes missed
If temps are -20c or lower or if there are weather warnings a class may be rescheduled
Parents and siblings 5 and under are free
Parents are welcome to drop off or stay
