Help your child deepen their connection to the natural world with our hands-on Spring Foraging & Plant Identification Class for ages 6–18. In this engaging and educational experience, participants will learn to identify a variety of seasonal plants, berries, trees, and fungi—exploring what is edible, medicinal, and useful, while also gaining the critical skills to recognize common look-alikes. With a focus on what the spring landscape has to offer, this class highlights the unique and often overlooked abundance of the season. Along the way, we emphasize responsible and sustainable foraging practices, ensuring young learners understand how to harvest with respect and care for the land. By the end of the session, your child will walk away with practical knowledge, sharpened awareness, and a deeper appreciation for the wild spaces around them.
We will meet by the washrooms in the UPPER parking lot.
There will be a limited amount of youth foraging bags available for purchase. They are a collaboration between Earth Kits and Kaykima and features a waxed canvas back, leather handle and a mesh front to allow for mushroom to breathe and spores to fall to the ground. Made in Alberta. You can add the bag on to the registration price on the next page.
Additional Information:
Please wear weather appropriate clothing. A good rule is to dress for colder than what the forecast is calling for. This includes sturdy, closed toe footwear and appropriate gear for rain or snow.
Pack along plenty to drink and a couple of snacks.
Youth are welcome to bring a knife if it is FIXED BLADE (non-folding) otherwise all tools and materials are provided. Youth can use cutting tools only after knife safety instruction.
These classes are drop off or parented. You know your child the best, however if you are dropping off please connect with Rob directly before the class.
Parents and siblings under 6 years old are welcome to hang out and observe.
