This engaging two-hour class invites children and youth (ages 6–18) to step into the role of young naturalists as they explore the hidden stories animals leave behind. Through hands-on activities, participants will learn how to identify animal tracks, scat, and other subtle signs of wildlife movement, sharpening their observation skills and deepening their connection to the land. We will also examine real skulls and bones to discover how physical features reveal diet, habitat, and behaviour, building an understanding of how animals survive and thrive.
Alongside tracking skills, the class emphasizes practical wildlife awareness—learning how animals behave, what to do if encountering species common to Alberta such as deer, coyotes, or bears, how to minimize unwanted interactions, and what essential items to pack for safe outdoor adventures. Blending curiosity, safety, and respect, this session fosters confidence and a grounded sense of stewardship in young explorers.
Feel free to bring your own found skulls or bones for identification!
